 ----- FREEDOOM

In general. Freedoom-ultimate and freedoom-iwad are intended to be run stand alone without iD Software's Doom or Doom2 IWADS. This, however, will not work as, in either case, they will be rejected by Risen3D's checking code which only recognises iD Software's proprietory IWADS.

If, however, you have the retail versions of Doom and Doom2 freedoom-ultimate and freedoom-iwad can be run with Risen3D. Since Risen3D needs the iD Software IWADS this gives the advantage that you can run the Freedoom wads with Risen3D's models including splashes, core and lighting effects.

In addition for users who have purchased iD Software's Doom and/or Doom2 game then following the information below avoids any risk of overwriting iD Software's proprietory iwads.

To install freedoom;

1)  freedoom-ultimate-latest.zip

This is the zip available from http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/freedoom/freedoom-iwad/ultimate/freedoom-ultimate-latest.zip

The zip contains various files the one of interest being doom.wad

Using R3DLauncher, install the freedoom-ultimate-latest.zip like any other pwad. i.e. use the "install pwad from remote location" radio button. Then, in the newly created game folder, rename the surrogate doom.wad to freedm.wad.

When freedm.wad is first run Risen3D will ask if you want to change it from an iwad to a pwad. If you agree then this will be done and you will be asked to restart. On now running the newly created freedmPWAD.wad the maps should load as normal. You may have to shutdown and then restart the Launcher for this to be displayed.

2)  freedoom-iwad-latest.zip

This is the zip available from http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/freedoom/freedoom-iwad/freedoom-iwad-latest.zip

The zip contains various files the one of interest being doom2.wad

To run this do the following;

Using R3DLauncher, install the freedoom-iwad-latest.zip like any other pwad. i.e. use the "install pwad from remote location" radio button. Then, in the newly created game folder, rename the surrogate doom2.wad to freedoom.wad.

When freedoom.wad is first run Risen3D will ask if you want to change it from an iwad to a pwad. If you agree then this will be done and you will be asked to restart. On now running the newly created freedoomPWAD.wad the maps should load as normal. You may have to shutdown and then restart the Launcher for this to be displayed.
