 IMPORTANT

 Do not tick Run this program as an administrator in properties else
 a 'User Account' window will be spawned each time R3D is started.
 Some legacy programs require this setting to be ticked in order to
 run, Risen3D does not.

 GENERAL POINTS WITH GRAPHICS CARDS

 1)	Ensure drivers are up to date.
 2)	Beware of 2nd hand cards - they may be being sold for good reason.
 3)	If using ATI Radeons then do not set anything in the ATI control
        panel. If unsure open the panel and use the 'reset to factory
        defaults' option.
 4)	Note that some Radeon cards cannot support the method used in R3D
        for dynlights; notably early ones and the HD4200 fitted to some
        portables. Dynlights can be disabled in Risen3D's control panel
        (press F4). Note: scripted maps do not allow this as these have
        been specifically authored to use dyn-lighting.
 5) ATI cards can stall badly with models.
 6) In order to use your monitor's maximum resolution in game then you
        will need to ensure that your desktop is set to use these values.
        If using Win10 it is best to always use fullscreen mode as graphic
        card drivers seem to have been optimised for this (possibly because
        of Win10 issues). Using windowed mode can lead to stalling.

 SETTING ZBIAS IN RISEN3D's CONTROL PANEL > GRAPHICS

 - In the console under Graphics then, for the best rendering, set the zbias
   to the lowest value where texture fighting is eliminated when using glow
   and dyn lights. The default of 0.0010 has been found to be the best value
   to prevent texture fighting. The worst case known for this is when on
   the gantry in Herian2 map27 although textures are now reworked to improve
   this by getting rid of unwanted high rows of transparent pixels. This is
   not an issue with R3D scripted maps as models are generally used in place
   of masked textures. In fact most other maps of all types will work with a
   zbias 10 times lower of .0001 (the lowest setting allowed).

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: FLASHING COLUMNS BEING SEEN ON DISTANT WALLS

 - See setting ZBIAS above.

==============================================================================

ISSUE: 3D SOUNDS NOT WORKING OR 3D SOUND BREAKING UP WHEN TELEPORTING
       IF USING MODIFIED CREATIVE ALCHEMY FOR ALL SOUNDCARDS

- Firstly, following the HAL being ripped by MS from Vista, reverb (3D sound)
  with Vista and all later versions of the OS could only be enabled if using
  a Creative soundcard from the Audigy2 on.

  It now transpires that a modified creative alchemy can be used with some
  Realtek sound chips for EAX reverb effects.

  See;

https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/28-creative-alchemy-universal/
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/download/367-eax-unified/

  It has been found, however, that strange sound break-up can occur if going
  into pause mode or if the player teleports in a map. This can be fixed by
  putting -rtekcm on the global command line, or selecting Realtek compatib-
  ility in the launcher (v220-33 on).

  Assuming you install support for the Realtek sound chipthen the eax.dll in
  the \Risen3D\bin\ folder should be deleted.

  Although the Creative card can be used with this switch it is best not to
  as it will be noticed, whichever sound chip is used with this switch, that
  rapid firing of, say, the plasma gun or other sounds will be truncated if
  playing a map where new enemies are being teleported in whilst existing
  sounds are still playing.

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: MUSIC NOT PLAYING

 - This may be because your hardware does not support files like mp3s.
   Put -useFMODs on the Launcher's global command line to force
   software mode.

==============================================================================

ISSUE : MUS/MIDI MUSIC PLAYBACK AFFECTS WINDOWS VOLUME MIXER

- Adjusting the WinMM MIDI volume slider also affects the Windows Volume
  Mixer and, if you don't want this changed, then you can revert to using
  FMOD midi support by putting -FMODmidi on the Launchers global Command
  Line. Note that in so doing you will be limited to only being able to use
  the default midi synth. Other options will not be shown in the Control
  Panel as they cannot be set using FMOD's midi player.

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: SAVE/LOAD slots RENDER WITH A VERTICAL LINE

 - Go to Windows Display Properties/Settings/Advanced and
   look for and then turn OFF, if found, Conformant Texture Clamp

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: "VSYNC CANNOT BE SET ERROR"

 - First check that your card has the facility to change vsync by looking
   at risen3d.out under Initializing OpenGL.  if it states that;

	Vid swap interval: not supported

   then vsync cannot be changed from within Risen3D. It may be settable
   from Windows.

   If it says it is supported then you may have had another program
   running concurrently, such as the Windows Media Player, which will
   prevent any change being possible.

 - If using the Launcher ensure under Misc/Preferences that Launch Mode
   is set to Minimised.

 - If none of the above applies then go to Windows Display
   Properties/Settings/Advanced and check that your
   driver's Vertical Sync has not been set to Always Off.

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: GAME SLOWS DOWN AND CAN STALL WHEN HI-RES TEXTURES ARE ENABLED

 - This is probably caused by having 64Mb or less of graphics memory
   which will usually only be the case with much older graphics cards
   going back 14 years or more.

   The only solution is to either to not use hi-res or upgrade the
   graphics card.

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: HANGS REQUIRING HARD RESET

 - In general if a hang occurs where the keyboard will not respond and
   thus the three fingured salute of CTRL-ALT-DEL cannot be invoked means
   the OS has hung or some software outside of Risen3D. The most likely
   culprit is the graphics card driver although it was also discovered
   that a USB port extender could cause the OS to hang. A workaround has
   been put into v33 to prevent this.

 - Win98 in its default configuration confers limited resources. These
   limits are easily breached and there is no real protection in the OS
   to recover properly when this occurs. The limits can be extended by
   right clicking on the icon 'My Computer' and selecting Properties from
   the drop down list. This will spawn a 'System Properties' window.
   Select the 'Performance' tab and then click on the 'File System'
   button. In the 'Hard Disk' pane select 'Network Server' from the drop
   down list. Exit out and restart the PC when prompted.

 - The NVidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti, the only card currently being manufact-
   ured by NVidia where XP drivers are provided (which have not been
   updated for months) hangs with XP. It could also hang with Win7 but
   the driver version 22.21.13.8569 dated the 16th September 2017 seems
   to have fixed this (and presumably any later than this).

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: CANNOT OPEN A DOOR

 - This is caused by using a savegame created using a previous version
   of Risen3D to the one currently installed. The only solution is to
   delete the savegame and restart the map. Any savegame now stored
   should work correctly.

==============================================================================
 ISSUE: WHEN MAKING A VIDEO NO SOUND IS RECORDED

 - If you are using the Creative Alchemy fix and want to record a video then
   first move the dsound.dll from the \bin folder to, say, the Risen3D folder
   as the dll prevents any sound from being recorded. Move the dll back after
   making any recording. 3D sound effects will be lost, however, as this is
   what the Creative surrogate dll fixes.

 ISSUE: MOUSE LAGS WITH WINDOWS 10

 - This can usually be resolved by right-clicking Risen3D.exe > Properties >
   Compatibility > Compatibility mode > Windows 8 or Windows 7.

=============================================================================
 ISSUE: MESSAGES GET CROPPED AT TOP-LEFT USING WINDOWS MODE WITH WINDOWS 10

 - This can usually be resolved by right-clicking Risen3D.exe > Properties >
   Compatibility > Compatibility mode > Windows 8 or Windows 7.

ISSUE: AUTOAIM

- Autoaim only works when player is looking
  directly ahead, i.e. not up or down.

  This can only be guaranteed when using lookspring to reset the look
  angle as the smallest deviation will prevent autoaim from being used.

  Setting this on and then off ensures the look direction

 To enable ...

 1. Esc>Options>InputOptions>MouseLook NO

 2. Esc>Options>Gameplay>Lookspring NO

 3. F4>Input>Disable mouse Y axis YES
